The University of Santiago has more than 500 years of history. It covers all areas of knowledge, and has several outstanding groups in the areas of Intellectual Property, Genomics, Pharmacology, Climatic change, Ecology, etc. It is very active in dissemination of knowledge, and in setting up spin off companies derived of the intellectual property development. Technologies Ltd is a developer and supplier of innovative mass spectrometry systems for various industries such as energy, environmental, medical and security. It was founded in 2002 as a spinout company from University of Liverpool receiving a number of grants to develop its products and bring them to the market. The company holds several patents for mass analysers and ion sources. Its main products include:
a) 200, 300 and 500 Da quadrupole mass spectrometry (QMS) systems for custom applications,
b) custom membrane sample inlet for air and liquid samples,
c) desorption atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (DAPCI) ion source for solid samples.
The company is currently involved with extending mass range of its portable QMS systems, which will increase the number of applications for them.

MBA is a marine research and training centre with two research departments:
1) marine ecology and oceanography;
2) and cellular and molecular biology of marine model organisms, which promote the investigation and disseminate knowledge of the seas and marine life.
They were the host institute for the FP7 project MIDTAL microarrays for the detection of toxic algae. The site are also hosts the Sir Alistair Hardy Plankton Recorder Data (SAHFOS), which is the longest running time series data set in the world since 1931.

The Littoral Station of Aguda ELA can be found at Praia de Aguda, a small fishing village on the Portuguese Atlantic coast, 10 km south of the river Douro estuary, in Vila Nova de Gaia of the metropolitan area of Porto. The building comprises three sections: a FISHERY MUSEUM which exhibits ancient and up-to-date equipment; an AQUARIUM which displays the local marine fauna and flora; and, an EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH DEPARTMENT for marine ecology, aquaculture and fishery. ELA belongs to the Town Municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia CMG, is directed by the municipal firm Águas de Gaia EM SA, and linked to the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar ICBAS of the University of Porto UP.

The Salambo Oceanographic Station (SOS) has been created in 1924. Actually named National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technologies (INSTM). It consisted of a research laboratory (4 laboratories), a public museum, a library, and a reference collection gathering the different marine species. INSTM is a public institute with 100 researchers, 3 main centres.

E&H Services, Inc. laboratory was established on 2013. The laboratory carries out the analysis of special organic substances (PCDD / F, PBDE, PCB, alkylphenols, nonylphenol and others) in the environmental compartments (water, waste, solid samples, soil, air, emissions, food, feed, biological material) and special analysis of the eluate from passive samplers. Furthermore, the laboratory is engaged in sampling of waste solids and special sampling techniques using passive samplers (SPMD, DGT and POCIS). The testing lab has implemented quality system management according to ČSN EN ISO 17025. Regular participation and excellent results of interlaboratory comparisons and analyses at international level can be considered as a further indicator of the quality of the laboratory work. Hi-tech equipment and professional backgrounds achieve the best results.

Natural Biotec S.L., a Spanish advisory organization on the environment and on biotechnology, was set up in 2003 by a group of professors and experts in processes of soil and water recovery by the use of clean technology. It is a spin-off company supported by the Complutense University of Madrid and integrated into the Madrid Science Park. Natural Biotec is an Environmental and Biotechnological consultant specialized on management and coordination of RD
projects. We work on remediation strategies on soil and water, and the valorization of industrial wastes (animal sub-products, WWTP sludge or lignocelulosic sludges) by using clean technologies, bioremediation and composting. Also we offer environmental samples analysis by means molecular techniques (F.I.S.H., PCR). The range of services has expanded to cover very diverse customer requirements in the sphere of biotechnology and the safeguard of the environment.
